Coming down heavily on the members of the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) for reportedly insulting their tradition of wearing the sacred thread, members of the Coimbatore Brahmana Maha Sabha (CBMS) staged a demonstration at Coimbatore Red Cross here on Saturday.

Indirectly mocking the members of TPDK who had tied the sacred thread on pigs, the protesters claimed that only parents wore the threads on their children according to tradition, indirectly calling the TPDK members as pigs.
Claiming that some of the organisations that started in the late 70s have been trying to disrupt peace among the Brahmin community, the members said that they had maintained peace over the years adding that they would continue to do so.
However, they warned that continuous harassment would instil anger and hatred among youngsters in their community; they requested the Governments and other sections of society to treat them with dignity also adding that those who have insulted them should be punished.
The members also have alleged that it was learnt that the members of TPDK are likely to protest on August 7th during Avani Avittam in various parts of Coimbatore City, they said that youngsters of their community would be forced to resort as the protest would be intimidating. More than twenty members participated in the protest.
