Coimbatore district police seized around 5 kg of ganja and arrested two Odisha natives during a special anti-narcotics operation conducted by Karamadai Police near Mettupalayam Main Road.
Coimbatore: In a major crackdown on narcotics, Coimbatore district police seized approximately 5 kg of ganja and arrested two men from Odisha who were allegedly in possession of the contraband for sale.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs received on Tuesday as part of the district police's intensified drive against drug trafficking, personnel attached to the Karamadai Police Station conducted a search operation near Mettupalayam Main Road.
During the operation, police arrested Jagadish Bariha (25), and Tupichandra Padhan (22), both natives of Odisha. Around 5 kg of ganja was recovered and seized from their possession.
The accused were subsequently produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
Coimbatore Superintendent of Police Pavan Kumar, IPS, reiterated that stringent legal action would be initiated against those involved in the sale of narcotic substances or activities detrimental to public order and safety.
The district police have also appealed to members of the public to share information relating to drug trafficking and other criminal activities through the Coimbatore District Police Control Room at 94981 81212 or via WhatsApp at 77081 00100. Police assured that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
