Police arrested M.K. Stalin, DMK working president and Opposition leader on the outskirts of City near Kaniyur toll plaza, even as he was proceeding by road to inspect the renovation works carried out Kacharayan Lake in Salem district.
Stalin who arrived at the Coimbatore International Airport this morning was en-route to Salem to visit the desilting work done by DMK cadres at the Kacharayan Lake in Salem district.
Unexpectedly, he was stopped and arrested near Kaniyur toll booth by a team of police headed by Superintendent of Police, Moorthy.
The traffic came to a brief halt in the section for more than an hour due to the arrest episode of the DMK leader. The DMK cadres held a road blockade condemning the arrest of their leader.
