The 'sensitive' protest statement issued by the Thanthai Dravida Kalagam (TPDK) regarding draping Poonal (the auspicious thread worn by people belonging to Brahmin community people) to pigs during the auspicious 'Aavani Avittam' function has been severely condemned by various sections of the people, deeming it to hurt the religious sentiments of a section of people.
Reinstating their stands, TPDK today has affirmed the conduct of the protest as scheduled in their general body meeting held in the city.
Speaking on this, TPDK President Jagadesan stated that "As planned we would demonstrate a protest seeking ban on 'Avani Avittam' function which intends to discriminate and hurt the sentiments of people who do not celebrate the event. The protest will be held on August 7th in front of Sanskrit College, Mylapore Chennai".
Resolutions to release Social activist, Thirumurugan Gandhi who was arrested under Goondas act and also to release student activist, Valarmathi demanding release of Peralivannan accussed of Late Former PM Rajiv Gandhi, revoking NEET among other resolutions were passed during the AGM.
Executive committe members of the TPDK party and the members of the party took part in the General body meeting.
