Coimbatore Book Festival 2017 was inaugurated at at CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex by the Chairman of National Book Trust Shri. Baldeo Bhai Sharma.

The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association in association with The Book Sellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI), Chennai has organized book fair.

Over 170 Publishers from Tamilnadu, Kerala, Karnataka, New Delhi and Maharashtra have participated in this event. They have displayed the book in 265 stalls. Jayamohan, noted Tamil writer was honored “Life Time Achievement Award” during the inauguration function.

The following are some of the initiatives taken by us during this event:
Some of the programmes which are organized during the festival are Literary Festival on July 22-23, in which noted writers, poets and noted personalities from the literary world will participate.

Arivukkeni, A Movement for Book Reading will also be featured this years.
This program will comprise of Elocution, Drawing Competitions and the likes on all days for school and college students in both Tamil and English languages. To reach our objective, we have started a Movement titled, “Arivukkeni” and have addressed about 50000 students in about 200 educational institutions about the significance of reading good books. This Movement will be given a thrust on the sidelines of Coimbatore Book Festival.

The third feature of the year’s book festival would be Special Programs for Employees. This again will comprise of various programs for employees like skits, debates and drama. We have initiated a Movement to create Library in all industries and are happy to mention that more than 100 industries have come forward to set up Libraries at their respective premises. In addition, many companies have agreed to give away Gift Coupons in the denomination of Rs. 100/- each to their employees which can be redeemed for Books at the Coimbatore Book Festival.
There will be entertainment programs on all days at 06.00 PM which will comprise of dance, music, children’ drama, ancient folk art, literary platform, satire court.

The book fair will be open till 30th July, between 11 am to 8 pm.
The previous edition of this event witnessed a footfall of 60,000 visitors and Rs.2.5 crore business turnover. We expect these figures to go up during this edition.
Many individuals, Trade Associations and Social Groups have worked tirelessly for several months to make this event a grand success.
