"The renovation of Kurichi kulam, one of the vital water bodies in the city would be taken up at a total outlay of Rs.175 lakh, with the help of Neiveli Lignite Corporation, the corporate sponsor for the project", said Minister SP Velumani during an event hosted in the city, today.
District Collector T.N. Hariharan, Jaggi Vasudev, Founder of Isha Foundation, representatives of various NGOs and environmentalists were present during the event held at the bank's of Kurichi kulam.

Inaugurating the renovation works S.P.Velumani, minister for Rural Development said that the renovation would help restore the depleted water table in the area. Steps would be taken to lay a walking track and landscaping and boat house would be built and pleasure boating introduced.

Jaggi Vasudev, Founder of Isha Yoga Center said "The per capita consumption of water has drastically come down owing to water scarcity. Presently water availability for a person has come down to only 21% of what it was in 1944.

Renovation of waterbodies and river linking projects could only be permanent solutions to conserve water for utilization in agriculture and general use and also will help conserve water for future generations".
