Confederation of Indian Industry, Coimbatore Zone has welcome the announced made by the Chief Minister Mr.Edappadi K.Palanisamy in the Assembly on Wednesday, 19 July 2017 on Metro Rail to Coimbatore.
In a statement released here, the CII has said “Coimbatore, being the second largest city of Tamil Nadu is one of the most industrialized districts. The population Coimbatore Urban Agglomerate is more than 20 lakhs. Currently, roadways are the major way of transport within the city. A Public mass transit system is generally recommended for a city with more than 1 million population.
“Analyzing the need of a quality MRTS for transportation, CII Coimbatore Zone in the year 2015 did a study on District Development Plan. As per the study, metro rail is suggested as the suitable option to handle large passenger traffic taking into account the future population and economic growth in the region. The report was submitted to the Government of Tamil Nadu. With this announcement, it is certain that, this move will prove beneficial to the increasing population” said P.Ravichandran, Chairman CII, and Tamilnadu.
“The city’s requirements in terms of mass transportation has only increased by the day. The proposal will give commuters improved mass transit option and would also ease the pressure on arterial roads where already more than a million people live within the Corporation limits. Metro rail would also support Government’s efforts in addressing environmental related issues. Industry members from Coimbatore have welcomed this move and are eagerly looking forward to the commencement of this rail at the earliest” the statement further said.
