CCM Corporation officials have conducted surprise raids and seized a whopping 566 kg of plastic products from 530 shops and slapped a total fine of Rs.76550 on the erring shop keepers.
The seizures were effected from shops across five zones of the civic body.
Intensifying its campaign to eradicate the use of plastics which fall below 50 micron levels the City Corporation has stepped up its monitoring and regular seizures of banned plastics is effected every week by dedicated teams.
The civic body is carrying out regular checks in shops and business establishments to eradicate the use of plastics. Offenders shop keepers, who violate the rules are slapped with fines.
"The fines are levied under Plastic wastes Management rules 2016 and shopkeepers selling plastic products below 50 micron level are taken to task and fined. The raids would continue further in all the five zones of the civic body", said CCMC Commissioner Dr.K.Vijayakarthikeyan.
