Coimbatore to get new bypass and ring roads at a cost of Rs.320 crores - Highway Officials.


"After obtaining a no objection certificate (NOC) from the National Highways Authority of India, tenders will be floated for Rs.168 crore for carrying out the fly over project connecting Athupalam - Ukkadam", said Senior Highway officials.



The project proposal for Uppilipalayam- Chinniyampalayam fly over project would be submitted soon and the works might commence within a year after finalization of bidding and contractor, they said.



Bypass and Ring road project

The officials also affirmed that a bypass road project and ring road project are also on the pipeline which if implemented will vastly reduce the  traffic congestion within the city's arterial roads.

As per the plan, a ring road would be laid connecting Mettupalayam road- Sathy road- Avinashi road and Tiruchy road. And, a major by- pass road project would be implemented at the cost of Rs, 320 crores, which would connect Kunaimuthur- Madukarai-Sundakkamuthur- Perur- Chettipalayam- Madhampatti-Vadavalli- Pannimadai- Narasmiamnaickenpalayam with Mettupalayam.



The Highways department is currently in the process of identifying lands for procurement for the implementation of the upcoming bypass road project in the city.
