Demanding to operate train service to all the Southern districts from Podanur and Coimbatore, the farmers paraded themselves in bullock cards and submitted petition to Railway authorities.

"Even after the gauge conversion works have been completed an outlay of Rs.350 crores, the Railway authorities have failed to reintroduce trains to southern districts. There were over 7 trains operated in the meter gauge over a decade back but no trains are operated now", the farmers said.

"Even though the train services have resumed between Podanur and Pollachi on July 15, it should be operated twice daily in the morning and evening hours. Trains to Dindigul, Madurai, Tuticorin, and Ramesheswaram should be introduced immediately as it would facilitate the general public to reach these destinations", the farmers said.

The farmers also alleged that due to irregularities during the implementation of the Podanur - Pollachi section, the railway line have been passing through treacherous terrain, which might pave way for boulders rolling down to the tracks.
