The world famous Nilgiris Mountain Railway, a tourist attraction of Ooty is stepping into the 13the year of UNESCO World Heritage Accreditation. The world heritage status was accorded to this 125 year old toy railway by UNESCO on on July 15, 2005.
The occasion was celebrated by distribution of sweets and garlanding of passengers by Deodar tribes.
The citizen forum of Coonoor has organized the celebrations and its functionaries Parameshwaran and Jebaratnam took part in the celebrations.
The NMR was built in 1885 and it traverses Mettupalayam - Coonoor - Ooty Ghat section during the colonial era.. Operated in rack and pinion method it has quaint railway stations in Hill grove, Adderley, Runnymede, and Ketti and passes through hills and valleys offering the panoramic view of the natural beauty of Western Ghats.
