After the Supreme Court’s order of closure of all liquor shops that fall within the 500m range of state or national highways, sources say, nearly 50 to 80 per cent of liquor shops have been shut across the State.

Following this order, the liquor shops located inside the city were thronged by liquor lovers who often indulge in littering the whole place with used glasses and water packets. Many times these tipplers not only contaminate the locale but they go a step further and cause menace to the public, especially to the women.
Once such problematic liquor outlet in the city is the Tasmac located at the GV Residency area. It was earlier reported in SimpliCity on the menace caused by the drunkards.

Public who were affected by the tipplers shared that‘The pitch darkness prevailing in the area and the adjacent empty plot next to the outlet has become very convenient for the Tasmac users. They not only litter but use the open space and the roads as bars to consume liquor. By doing so, the tipplers enter into unnecessary scuffle with the public and the motorists who use the road. They not only park their vehicles in an unruly manner but also litter the whole place awfully”.
Following the repeated complaints, yesterday, the Police patrolled the area and found tipplers using public space as bars. Not only they warned but also arrested four people for creating public menace and littering in public space. In this context, Dharmaraj (36), Sivakumar (37), Varadharajan (40) and Suresh (35) from Masakalipalayam and Singanallur area were arrested.
