Kovai Kulangal Pathukaapu Amaippu removes mounds of debri from Devi Sirai check dam.


Over 200 volunteers of Kovai Kulangal Pathukaapu Amaippu, a volunteer-driven people’s movement which is in the forefront of reviving water bodies have engaged in the cleanup campaign Devi sirai, a check dam across Noyyal river which was built during the 12th century.



Marking their 21st week of field work in reviving water bodies in and around Coimbatore, which have fallen on evil days, the volunteers pulled up their sleeves and cleared the bushels, collected debris, and plastics form the check dam, which feeds waters to Ukkadam big tank.



The NSS volunteers of Karpagam Engineering College and members of public took part in the cleanup in large numbers.
