City Corporation slaps fines of Rs.4,550 for open defecation on city denizens.

With an avowed aim to make the city open defecation- free the City corporation has conducted raids and slapped fines to the tune of Rs.4,550 on those who were found to be using open areas for open defecation.

The corporation has exhorted the citizens to use only toilets and also have received pledges to this effect by using Self Help Groups. However the practice of open defecation is found to be in practice in many wards across the five zone.

To discourage such unhygienic practice the corporation has fined people who have used open areas near PR lay out in ward 35 and areas under ward 10,17 and 22 including Chearnraj nagar, Muthumariappan street. People using Gandhipuram and Ukkadam bus stand areas for open defecation.

Appealing to the public to use only toilets and sanitary complexes constructed by the corporation, the commissioner Dr.K.Vijayakarthikeyan said that people could contact corporation if there is any lack of sanitary complexes in their areas.
