Private Tea Estate workers of Valparai petition collector, demand pay parity with Kerala workers

The tea estate workers working in privately - owned estates in Valparai area have petitioned District Collector T.N.Hariharan demanding pay parity with that of their counterparts in Kerala.

“We the Tamilnadu estate workers have been paid Rs.234 as daily wages, where as our counterparts working for Kerala estates in Valparai region are getting Rs.313, after the successful talks held with the Kerala Government” the estate workers said.

“Since we do not belong to any estate workers union, the talks held by them would not bound us. The Government should hold talk with us and arrive at an amicable solution for this problem' the estate workers said in the petition.
