This Sunday too was no different for the spirited NGO's of the city as they were engaged in a massive cleaning drive at the Selvachinthamani and Muthannan Lake.

This morning, volunteers from NGO EFI organised a cleaning drive at the Selvachinthamani Lake. The volunteers cleared the trash from in and around the lake.

In a similar cleaning activity, volunteers and public joined hands to clean the city fame Muthannan Kulam. Loads of trash mainly plastic were removed from both the water bodies.

Despite placing warning boards advising public to refrain from dumping wastes, people continue dumping trash into the water bodies. Dumping of wastes at this magnitude not only ruins the water body but also pose a serious threat to the entire ecology. Deposits of plastic in the water bed hinders the process of water penetration into the ground. Thus proving detrimental to the water table', shared a Volunteer from Muthannan Lake.
