The first edition of the art exhibition of transgender community was inaugurated by Transgender activist A. Revathi, Anusha Ravi (CEO, Park Institution) and Chitra Manohar (CEO, Adithya Institute of Technology) at Jennys Residency here. The exhibition has got an impressive collection of over 60 art works from 50 transgender artists and is exhibited at Arthouz in.

Kalki Subramanian, the well-known transgender activist aims to reach out to 10,000 transgender people and introduce them the joy of art through her Trans/Hearts initiative.

"Through our Sahodari Foundation, I want to invest in their talents and encourage them to be professional artists and creators. Making art in a nonjudgmental atmosphere is important. Only when you are liberated, you can make great art and good art will sell and bring them the money they need. I dream of taking them and their artworks internationally. Art can change our lives for better. It has changed mine" says Kalki to SimpliCity.

Trans/Hearts is an initiative of transgender rights activist, artist, writer and performer Kalki Subramanian who also is the founder of Sahodari Foundation. Trans/Hearts was born out of Kalki's own experiences in life. As a gender conforming child, pen and paint brush were her only solace for self-expression that practice transformed her into an artist giving her the gift of self-healing and grounding oneself.

Kalki, wanted to share that experience with her transgender community through their participation in art. Through Trans/Hearts she conducts art workshops across India and teaches transgender people to paint their untold stories on canvas.

"We have done six workshops so far, there are always new elements introduced in the workshop and the community loves them" says Kalki.
Participants Sowndharya and Kanchana are in the core team and have immense love for art. Sowndharya says in her “1 paint and I want I think. I know I am not perfect, yet I have improved a lot. When I paint I forget all my worries and it helps me a lot.

Another transwoman Kanchana says "I love painting so much. I wanted to learn more and more out of my painting”

"The future looks exciting and we are painting our own future, and it will be a picture of celebrations" says Kalki with a smile. Find out all about Trans/Hearts at www.transhearts.org and know more about Sahodari Foundation at www.Sahodari.org.
