Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Oncology and Research launches 'Digital Awareness Pendrive' on World Anti-Tobacco Day

Every year Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Oncology and Research headed by Dr.P.Guhan conducts many cancer awareness programs to educate the public on the ill-effects of tobacco. 28 Crore people are addicted to tobacco in India and about 10 Lakh people die of cancer of which 40-50% die due to tobacco usage.



To commemorate World Anti-Tobacco Day this year, Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Oncology has launched a unique 'Digital Awareness Pendrive' which provides people with information on the ill-effects of tobacco chewing, smoking and related cancers. It also gives detailed information on all types of cancer staging, investigations and treatment, in both English and Tamil.

Dr. Guhan, Director, Medical Oncologist, SRIOR, said, “For the past 13 years, The Ramakrishna Oncology Department has been holding various awareness programmes. Every year thousands of people die due to the intake of tobacco in various forms. Tobacco also forms a direct link to Cancer. In men, there is an increased risk of infertility and strokes.

Hence, this year we launched the digital awareness pendrive so that organizations including colleges, corporates and industries can contact us and spread awareness through this drive.



The Digital Awareness pendrive was launched by Sri. T.N.Hariharan IAS, District Collector of Coimbatore and Sri.R.Vijaya, Managing Trustee of SNR Sons Charitable Trust, presided over the event.
