Coimbatore: Water levels in major dams of Coimbatore district including Aliyar, Parambikulam and Sholayar are rising due to continuous southwest monsoon rains. Farmers in the region are expressing satisfaction over the improving water storage situation.
Aliyar dam near Anaimalai has a total capacity of 120 feet. As of today (July 27), the water level stands at 55.55 feet due to inflow from catchment areas. The dam is receiving an inflow of 273 cubic feet per second while 250 cubic feet per second is being released. Water department officials stated that inflow to the dam is continuously decreasing due to reduced rainfall in the catchment areas.
Parambikulam dam near Pollachi has a total capacity of 72 feet. As of today (July 27), the water level has reached 23.92 feet. The dam is receiving an inflow of 969 cubic feet per second with 60 cubic feet per second being released. The water level continues to rise due to southwest monsoon, bringing relief to farmers in the area.
Sholayar dam near Valparai has a total capacity of 160 feet. As of today (July 27), the water level has reached 61.25 feet. The dam is receiving an inflow of 365 cubic feet per second while 1321 cubic feet per second is being released. Water department officials confirmed that the dam's water level continues to rise steadily.
