Tasmac shop employees and trade unions file a petition seeking safety

Tasmac shop employees and trade unions such as Anna Thozhil Sangam, Pattali Thozhil Sangam, CITU and LPF recently filed a petition seeking safety. Ever since the high court ordered the shut-down of all tasmacs within 500m radius of national highways, tasmac owners have been on the lookout for vicinities to open liquor shops.

Local occupants are staunchly standing against the opening of tasmacs in residential areas. Sometimes these protests also spiral into violent acts such as breaking into or stoning liquor shops, injuring the tasmac employees.

Despite the government allocating spots for opening of new tasmac outlets, people especially women continue to demonatrate protests condemning opening of new tasmac shops in residential areas. Therefore, the tasmac shop employees have filed this petition seeking their safety and also alleged that such protests continue to put them in a unemployed state.
