Two Killed, Three Injured in Separate Road Accidents Across Coimbatore

A 60-year-old woman and a 24-year-old motorcyclist were killed in separate road accidents in Coimbatore, while three others sustained serious injuries in two other crashes, raising fresh concerns over the increasing number of road accidents in the city.


Coimbatore: Two people lost their lives and three others sustained serious injuries in four separate road accidents reported across Coimbatore, highlighting the growing concern over the rising number of road mishaps in the city.

In the first incident, Aadhilakshmi (60), a native of Vilathikulam near Aranthangi in Pudukottai district who was residing in Peelamedu, died after being hit by a speeding motorcycle while attempting to cross the road near Aadhi Vinayagar Street in Peelamedu. She suffered severe head injuries and succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital. The motorcyclist, Ashwin (19) of Irugur, sustained minor injuries. The Traffic Investigation Wing (East) Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

In another fatal accident, Gowtham (24) of Krishnapuram in Tiruppur district was killed after a private luxury bus rammed into his motorcycle near the Velan Theatre bus stop on Sathy Road at Ganapathy on Saturday morning. Although he was wearing a helmet, the rear wheel of the bus ran over his head, killing him on the spot. Police have booked the bus driver, Arun Kumar (23) of Kalakkad in Tirunelveli district, on charges of rash and negligent driving causing death.

In a separate incident on the Saravanampatti–Thudiyalur Road, two cars collided head-on after one of the vehicles allegedly veered onto the wrong side of the road. Balasubramaniam (28) and Amudhavalli (64) sustained multiple fractures to the chest and legs and were admitted to a private hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. The Traffic Investigation Wing (East) Police are investigating the crash.

In another case, Balaji (35) of Podanur suffered a fracture to his right arm after an unidentified car hit his scooter near a petrol bunk on Mahalingapuram Main Road and fled the scene without stopping. Police have registered a hit-and-run case and are examining CCTV footage from nearby establishments to identify the vehicle.

Police have appealed to motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules, avoid overspeeding and exercise caution while driving, as investigations into all four accidents are under way.
