Mettupalayam Prepares for Mahalaya Amavasya: Thousands Expected for Ancestral Rituals

Mettupalayam's All Hindu Community Garden gears up for Mahalaya Amavasya, expecting thousands to perform tharpanam rituals for ancestors. Authorities implement measures to manage crowds and ensure safety.

Coimbatore: The All Hindu Community Garden in Mettupalayam is making extensive preparations for the upcoming Mahalaya Amavasya, as thousands are expected to gather for performing tharpanam (ancestral rituals) on this auspicious day.

Mahalaya Amavasya, an annual event, holds significant importance for Hindus who believe that performing tharpanam on this day brings peace to the souls of their ancestors and fulfills their desires. The ritual has been a long-standing tradition among the faithful.

The garden, located along the banks of the Bhavani River in Mettupalayam, Coimbatore district, is anticipated to witness a massive influx of devotees from Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Nilgiris, and surrounding areas. The All Hindu Community Garden administration is taking stringent measures to manage the expected crowd of 30,000 to 40,000 people.

To prevent overcrowding and ensure smooth proceedings, the organizers are setting up barricades and implementing queue systems. Special arrangements are also being made near the Bhavani River, where devotees traditionally take a holy dip and immerse the ritual offerings. Additional staff will be deployed to oversee safety measures and prevent any untoward incidents.

The Mettupalayam police are preparing for heavy traffic congestion expected from early morning, particularly on Bhadrakaliamman Temple Road and Ooty Road. To enhance security and prevent criminal activities, over 20 surveillance cameras have been installed at strategic locations.

N.S.V. Arumugam, the president of the All Hindu Community Garden, has assured that all basic amenities including food, water, and toilet facilities will be provided for the visiting devotees.
