List of village panchayats proposed to be merged with various Coimbatore Municipal Corporation

The Coimbatore Municipal Corporation proposes to merge village panchayats with surrounding municipalities and town panchayats to expand urban local bodies. This includes population and area data for the affected panchayats.

Coimbatore:

In an effort to streamline urban administration and provide better services, a proposal has been made to merge several village panchayats with the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation. The panchayats in question span multiple municipalities and town panchayats, including areas such as Perur Chettipalayam, Irugur, and Madukkarai.

The table outlines the proposed mergers, listing population, areas, and distances for municipalities, town panchayats, and rural local bodies (RLBs). This move is expected to boost efficiency in governance, especially with the growing population in these regions. For instance, the population for some of these proposed mergers such as Madukkarai stands at over 36,720 residents, while many town panchayats such as Perur and Irugur have a combined population nearing 70,477 residents.

The merger aims to increase the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation's population to over 18,07,605 residents, with a total combined area of 438.54 sq. km after the proposed mergers.

The local panchayats involved include Kovaipudur and Kuniamuthur, both of which will play a significant role in expanding the urban boundary and services provided to residents. This development will support better planning and infrastructure improvements for the growing city.
