Tirupur: In a brazen act of theft, two unidentified men stole a box of groceries from a store in Udumalpet, Tirupur district, using a clever distraction technique. The incident, which occurred on Sathiram Street, was captured on the store's CCTV camera and has since gone viral on social media platforms in the Udumalpet area.
The busy grocery store, like many others on Sathiram Street, had received a new shipment of goods. The owner had placed some boxes outside for inventory checking, a common practice in the area. Taking advantage of the crowded store and the preoccupied staff, two men executed their plan to steal one of the boxes.
According to the CCTV footage, one of the thieves first visited a nearby fancy goods store. He then approached the grocery store, pretending to be on a phone call, and moved the target box in front of the fancy goods shop. The man then called his accomplice, who entered the fancy goods store and engaged the shopkeeper in conversation while pretending to buy a pen. Seizing this opportunity, the first thief picked up the box of groceries and quickly left the scene.
The stolen box reportedly contained asafoetida and cumin seed packets worth approximately Rs. 8,000. The incident has raised concerns among local residents, as Udumalpet has been experiencing frequent thefts in recent months.
Social activists in the area have urged the Udumalpet Police to investigate the incident thoroughly and take action against the culprits. They emphasize the need for increased vigilance and security measures to prevent such thefts in the future.
