Women in Pollachi's Marappettai Area Petition Sub-Collector for Land Ownership Rights

Women from Marappettai, Pollachi, petitioned the Sub-Collector for land ownership rights to their long-occupied homes, seeking protection from eviction threats by a private individual.

Coimbatore: Women residents of Marappettai Street in Pollachi submitted a petition to the Sub-Collector, requesting land ownership rights for the houses they have been occupying for several years. The petition comes in response to alleged eviction threats from a private individual claiming ownership of the land.

Located on Udumalpet Road in Pollachi, Marappettai Street is home to over 50 families. These residents have been paying property tax, water tax, and electricity bills in their own names for the properties they occupy.

The petitioners, representing families who have lived in the area for over a century, stated that a private individual has been pressuring them to vacate their homes, claiming ownership of the land. Seeking protection from this threat, the women appealed to the Sub-Collector to grant them patta (legal land ownership documents) for their long-standing residences.

In their petition, the women emphasized their historical connection to the area and requested the authorities to safeguard them from the troubles caused by the private individual. They urged the Sub-Collector to recognize their rights and provide them with the necessary legal documents to secure their homes.

The residents hope that by obtaining official land ownership rights, they can put an end to the uncertainty surrounding their living situation and continue to reside peacefully in the homes they have known for generations.
