Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati announces property tax refund scheme for ex-servicemen in Tamil Nadu. Eligible veterans can claim up to Rs. 10,000 annually for one self-occupied house within six months of payment.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati has announced a new scheme allowing ex-servicemen from Tamil Nadu to reclaim property tax paid on their self-occupied houses through the Ex-Servicemen Welfare Department.

According to the announcement, eligible ex-servicemen can claim a refund of up to Rs. 10,000 per year (for two half-yearly payments) or the actual amount paid, whichever is lower. The refund can be claimed within six months from the date of tax payment, subject to certain conditions.

The eligibility criteria for the scheme include:

1. The ex-serviceman must be a permanent resident of Tamil Nadu.

2. The refund applies to only one house owned and occupied by the ex-serviceman for personal use.

3. The ex-serviceman should not be an income tax payer.

4. Those who have been re-employed in Tamil Nadu government departments, central government services, or public sector undertakings on a permanent basis after retirement from military service, and those receiving pensions from such re-employment, are not eligible.

5. The house for which property tax is paid must be in the name of the ex-serviceman only.

6. The refund can be claimed for property tax paid from the second half of the 2023-24 financial year, following the issuance of the government order on February 27, 2024.

Eligible ex-servicemen can claim their refunds by submitting the original property tax receipt, original discharge certificate, ID card, Aadhaar card, and a copy of the first page of their bank passbook. They need to collect and fill out the appropriate form in person.

Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati has urged eligible ex-servicemen to take advantage of this scheme by submitting the required documents and completed forms.
