Coimbatore: In a major drug bust, the Coimbatore police seized 12 kg of ganja and arrested three individuals in separate incidents on Tuesday. The arrests were made during surprise vehicle checks conducted by the police across various locations in the city.
The Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) police were conducting vehicle checks on the Coimbatore Sungam Bypass Road when they intercepted a suspicious two-wheeler. Upon inspection, they found 4 kg of ganja in the possession of the rider. The suspect was identified as Bhishma Dandi (29), a native of Kandhamal district, Odisha.
In a separate incident near Idigarai in Thudiyalur, the police intercepted another two-wheeler carrying 8 kg of ganja. Two individuals were apprehended in this case. They were identified as Ramesh (45) from Perumanallur, Tiruppur, and Jadaba Behera (33) from Balangir district, Odisha.
All three suspects were immediately taken into custody, and the contraband was seized. The police are currently investigating the matter to uncover potential links to larger drug trafficking networks and to identify the source and intended recipients of the smuggled ganja.
