Hindu Makkal Katchi Demands Completion of Housing Project and Removal of Fish Market in Ukkadam

Hindu Makkal Katchi submits petition to Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner, urging completion of promised housing project in CMC Colony and removal of fish market in Ukkadam area.

Coimbatore: The Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) has submitted a petition to the Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner, M Sivaguru Prabhakaran, demanding the completion of a housing project in the CMC Colony area of Ukkadam and the removal of a fish market in the vicinity.

According to the petition, the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation and the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board had previously promised to construct over 520 houses in the CMC Colony area of Ukkadam. However, only 222 houses have been built so far, leaving a significant number of families without the promised housing.

The HMK has urged the Corporation to fulfill its commitment by constructing the remaining houses. The party emphasized the importance of providing adequate housing for the residents of the area, many of whom have been waiting for years to receive their promised homes.

In addition to the housing issue, the petition also called for the removal of the fish market in the area. The HMK representatives stated that the market has been causing inconvenience to local residents and affecting the overall cleanliness and hygiene of the neighborhood.

The Corporation Commissioner has received the petition and assured the HMK representatives that their concerns would be looked into. The civic body is expected to review the status of the housing project and consider the request for relocating the fish market.

This development highlights the ongoing challenges in urban housing and infrastructure management in Coimbatore, as well as the active role played by local political organizations in bringing such issues to the attention of the municipal authorities.
