Four Bootleggers Arrested Under Goondas Act for Illegal Sale of Liquor in Pollachi

Coimbatore police arrested four individuals under the Goondas Act for smuggling and selling illicit liquor from other states in Gopalapuram area on June 23, 2024. The District Collector issued the order based on the SP's recommendation.


Coimbatore: Four individuals have been arrested under the Goondas Act for illegally smuggling and selling liquor from other states in Coimbatore district. The arrests were made following a recommendation by the Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police, Badrinarayanan IPS, and an order issued by District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati IAS.

The accused, identified as Anandkumar (47), son of Veeramuthu, Senthilkumar (40), son of Boopathi, Muhammed Yusuf (21), son of Uthman, and Karthik (21), son of Karuppusamy, all hailing from the Pollachi area, were initially arrested on June 23, 2024, by the Perur Prohibition Enforcement police. They were caught selling illegal liquor from other states in the Gopalapuram area of Coimbatore district.

Following their arrest and imprisonment, the District Superintendent of Police recommended invoking the Goondas Act against the four individuals. Based on this recommendation, District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati issued an order to take action under the Goondas Act. Subsequently, the four accused were re-arrested under the Goondas Act and imprisoned.

The District Superintendent of Police has warned that strict action, including the invocation of the Goondas Act, will be taken against those who disturb public peace or engage in activities detrimental to public health. He also revealed that so far this year, 43 individuals have been charged under the Goondas Act in Coimbatore district.
