Flood surge in Pambar River, major catchment area of Amaravathi Dam near Udumalaipettai

Heavy rains in catchment areas of Amaravathi Dam near Udumalaipettai, Tirupur district, have led to a significant increase in water inflow. The Pambar River, a major catchment, is experiencing severe flooding.

Tirupur: Continuous heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of Amaravathi Dam, including Pambar, Thoovanam, Kandhalur, and Maraiyur near Udumalaipettai in Tirupur district, has resulted in a steady increase in water inflow to the dam. As of 2 PM today, the inflow to Amaravathi Dam has reached 7,100 cubic feet per second.

The Pambar River, a crucial catchment area near the Maraiyur Kovil Kadavu region, is experiencing severe flooding. A significant amount of water is flowing from the forest areas into the Amaravathi Dam. Currently, the water level in the Amaravathi Dam stands at 75.14 feet out of its total capacity of 90 feet.

Given the rising water levels, Public Works Department officials are intensively monitoring the Amaravathi Dam area. The continuous rainfall in the catchment areas and the subsequent increase in water inflow have put the authorities on high alert. They are closely watching the situation to ensure the safety of the dam and surrounding areas.

The flood surge in the Pambar River and other catchment areas highlights the impact of the ongoing heavy rains in the region. Local residents and farmers in the downstream areas have been advised to stay vigilant and follow the instructions of the district administration regarding safety measures and potential evacuation procedures if necessary.
