Chief Minister Stalin Announces Implementation of Amended Prohibition Act

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announces implementation of the amended Prohibition Act in the Assembly, introducing life imprisonment and ₹10 lakh fine for deaths due to illicit liquor.

Coimbatore: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced the implementation of the amended Prohibition Act in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. The new law introduces stricter penalties for offenses related to illicit liquor.

Under the amended act, those responsible for deaths caused by the consumption of illicit liquor will face life imprisonment and a fine of ₹10 lakh. This significant increase in punishment aims to deter the production and distribution of illegal alcohol in the state.

Chief Minister Stalin also revealed that a new section has been added to the law to prevent accused individuals from easily obtaining bail. This measure is intended to ensure that those charged with offenses related to illicit liquor remain in custody during legal proceedings, potentially reducing repeat offenses and enhancing public safety.

The announcement of these amendments marks a significant step in the state government's efforts to combat the illicit liquor trade and its devastating consequences on public health and safety. The stricter penalties and bail restrictions are expected to serve as a strong deterrent against the manufacture, sale, and distribution of illegal alcohol in Tamil Nadu.
