Coimbatore: A tragic accident occurred near Mettupalayam-Karamadai when a speeding private bus crashed into a stationary lorry, resulting in the death of one person. The incident, which was captured on CCTV, has sparked outrage and concerns about the reckless driving of private bus operators in the region.

Thousands of commuters and students from Mettupalayam and surrounding areas travel to Coimbatore city daily using both government and private buses. In recent months, private bus operators have been driving at high speeds to maximize profits by accommodating more passengers within shorter time frames.

Despite periodic checks by traffic police and transport authorities, private bus drivers continue to operate their vehicles at dangerous speeds. This has led to an increase in accidents on the route.

On the day of the incident, two individuals on a two-wheeler had stopped near the Mettupalayam-Karamadai road. One person was on the vehicle, while the other was preparing to cross the road. A lorry was stationary in front of them.

Suddenly, a private bus speeding from Mettupalayam towards Coimbatore collided with the two individuals before crashing into the lorry. The accident resulted in the tragic death of an employee from Geethamani egg shop.

The entire incident was captured by a CCTV camera installed at a nearby shop. The video footage, which has since been released, has shocked the public and raised serious questions about road safety and the regulation of private bus operations in the area.

This incident has once again highlighted the need for stricter enforcement of speed limits and safety regulations for private bus operators plying on the Mettupalayam-Coimbatore route. Local authorities are expected to take action to prevent such accidents in the future and ensure the safety of commuters.
