Minister Muthuswamy Refutes Corruption Allegations Against Coimbatore Mayor

Minister Muthuswamy inaugurated a new entrance at the Coimbatore Collectorate and distributed deposit certificates to beneficiaries. He addressed various issues including the Makkaludan Mudhalvar scheme, infrastructure projects, and liquor policies.


Coimbatore: Minister Muthuswamy inaugurated a new entrance at the Coimbatore District Collector's office on Wednesday. Following the inauguration, he distributed deposit certificates worth Rs. 25,000 each to 1,048 beneficiaries under the social security scheme for families with two female children.

Speaking to reporters, Muthuswamy stated that five buildings worth Rs. 2.49 crore have been opened for use in areas under the Coimbatore Corporation. He added that deposit certificates totaling Rs. 5.11 crore have been distributed to 1,048 beneficiaries under the scheme for families with two female children.



The Minister announced that camps under the Makkaludan Mudhalvar scheme will be held for 66 days starting today. These camps will be conducted in 218 village panchayats across Coimbatore district, with 15 departments participating. Citizens can submit petitions for 44 types of issues, which will be addressed within 30 days.

Muthuswamy assured that work on the Avinashi flyover and the international cricket stadium would be expedited. Regarding the tetra bottle issue, he mentioned that the matter is currently in court, and decisions will be made after considering all aspects.



When questioned about the opening of toddy shops, the Minister stated that it is a significant policy decision requiring extensive consultations before any announcement can be made. He also addressed concerns about the former Coimbatore Mayor Kalpana's resignation, emphasizing that it was due to health reasons and that corruption allegations against her were unfounded.

Muthuswamy highlighted the government's efforts to reduce the number of liquor shops, with 500 shops already closed. He warned of strict action against unauthorized liquor outlets and assured that billing issues in TASMAC shops are being rectified.

The Minister also addressed concerns about water contamination in some areas of Coimbatore Corporation, stating that necessary actions are being taken. Regarding the Vikravandi by-election, Muthuswamy expressed confidence in the DMK's victory, citing public support for the Chief Minister's initiatives in addressing people's issues.
