Councilor's Husband Assaults Young Man in Mettupalayam for Reporting Uncleared Garbage

In Mettupalayam's 23rd ward, a disturbing incident occurred where a young man named Gautham was assaulted by the husband of the local councilor after reporting unattended garbage and resulting health hazards.

Coimbatore: In a shocking turn of events in Mettupalayam's 23rd Ward, Railway Colony, an altercation emerged involving the husband of Congress councilor Kavitha Purushothaman. Following complaints about unhandled garbage accumulation over the past five months, which led to severe sanitary issues and a reported dengue fever death, local resident Gautham approached councilor Kavitha for action. His complaints being ignored initially, led him to escalate the issue to the Mettupalayam Municipality. Subsequently, sanitation workers were dispatched to the site on May 30.

In response, an infuriated Purushothaman, his son, and other individuals confronted the sanitation workers, declaring that the area did not need cleaning, which escalated to physically assaulting Gautham. Gauthetham suffered a severe neck injury during the attack and was rushed to a Government Hospital in Coimbatore by ambulance.

The incident has caused significant unrest in the area and has been widely discussed after a video of the assault went viral on social media platforms. The shocking nature of the attack, particularly involving a figure associated with governance, raises concerns about citizen safety and accountability in local government operations.
