Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu has been commended for having the least amount of power outages among all states in India. Union Power Minister R.K. Singh highlighted the state's power reliability as comparable with developed nations, a testament to its robust power management systems.

During the intense summer months, as AC use and other electrical consumptions soar due to extreme heat, Tamil Nadu has witnessed a significant rise in electricity usage. Daily consumption has surpassed 40 crore units, pushing the demand to 19,387 megawatts on March 20, marking a new record for the most power needed in a single day in the state.

The meeting focused on reviewing, planning, and monitoring the functioning of power-sharing companies across various states. It also celebrated Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited's (TANGEDCo) latest achievements. TANGEDCo improved its national ranking from B+ to A within the recent Consumer Service Ratings of DISCOMs, orchestrated by the Union Power Ministry.

This accolade by the union minister comes as TANGEDCo continues to excel in various performance metrics. With only 2.20% transformer failures compared to the national average of 5.81%, and surpassing national averages in urban (23.99 hours) and rural (22.60 hours) power supply durations, the organization stands as a model of efficiency.

Adding to its accolades, TANGEDCo's operational reliability, connection metrics, metering and billing, collection rates, fault rectification, and grievance redressing have all been recognized as contributing factors to its high rating.
