In Dharapuram, a construction worker identified as Sivakumar alias Siva was arrested for abducting and sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl under POCSO Act.

Coimbatore: A distressing incident has come to light from Dharapuram where a construction worker, Sivakumar alias Siva, has been arrested for the abduction and horrific sexual assault of a minor girl. The incident occurred in the vicinity of Chinnakambalayam village.

According to the local police, the victim, a 17-year-old girl, was living with her mother, Vijaya, in Therpatti village. On December 25, 2023, Sivakumar visited their home purportedly to ask Vijaya to employ someone for a job. Taking advantage of the mother's absence, he abducted the adolescent girl, initiated contact, and subsequently assaulted her multiple times.

The mother, upon discovering the repeated assaults, relocated to her mother's house in the Chinnakambalayam area to protect her daughter. Despite this, Sivakumar continued to target the girl. On discovering her daughter in pain and subsequently learning about her pregnancy during a medical visit, the distressed mother was threatened by Sivakumar to pin the blame on a deceased relative.

Armed with medical evidence of assault and after overcoming her fear, the victim's mother approached the Dharapuram All-Women Police Station under Inspector Chellam's guidance. Detailing the repeated assaults, threats, and manipulation by Sivakumar, she pressed charges. On May 23, 2024, Sivakumar was apprehended and charged under the POCSO Act, reflecting the severity of the offenses.

He is currently held in Tirupur Women's Court facing several charges, with the police advocating for stringent actions given the gravity of the crime.
