Livestock farmers and agriculturists in Coimbatore district were instructed on preventive measures for the upcoming monsoon season on May 22, highlighting practices to safeguard animals.

Coimbatore: The Department of Livestock Maintenance has released a set of guidelines for livestock farmers in Coimbatore district, aiming to protect livestock during the monsoon season. Announced today, May 22, the guidelines advise against letting livestock graze in open fields during storms, particularly when lightning and thunderstorms are forecast.

Farmers are urged not to tie their cattle outdoors or near high-voltage power lines and transformers. Livestock should be relocated from low-lying waterlogged areas to elevated grounds immediately to prevent potential hazards.

The shelters for livestock should be well-maintained, ensuring they are supplied with clean water and quality feed. The advisory also emphasizes that all veterinary stations in Coimbatore district are stocked with essential medicines, vaccines, and mineral mixtures adequate for the season.

In light of the monsoon, the Livestock Maintenance Department’s regional deputy director has emphasized the importance of adhering to these guidelines to ensure the safety and wellness of the animals, urging all related farmers and agriculturists to make full use of the services provided and follow the guidelines meticulously.
