Coimbatore's Visually Impaired pledge to achieving 100 percent voter turnout

In Coimbatore, persons with visual disabilities took a pledge for election awareness, in the presence of District Electoral Officer and District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, aiming for 100 percent voting participation.

Coimbatore: Today (26.03.2024), in an event held at the Coimbatore District Collector's office premises, voters with disabilities pledged to ensure 100% voting participation in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

This awareness drive was initiated in the presence of District Electoral Officer and Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, aiming for a broader effort to motivate 100% voting among persons with various disabilities.

The event saw the participation of individuals with visual impairments, taking a pledge to encourage election awareness among their community. The event was also attended by Pollachi Parliamentary Constituency Electoral Officer/District Revenue Officer Mo. Sharmila, Social Welfare Scheme Deputy Collector Suresh, and others.

In efforts to ensure full electoral participation from individuals with disabilities, the Greater Chennai Corporation has selected representatives, known as icons or ambassadors, from the disability community.

These ambassadors are tasked with fostering accessible voting environments. Their mission is to assist those with disabilities, such as blindness, low vision, individuals cured of leprosy, those with hearing or locomotor impairments, autism spectrum disorder, and multiple sclerosis and others, ensuring they can vote without hindrance.
