Coimbatore Launches ‘Eat Right Millet Bikeathon’ to Promote Nutritional Benefits of Millets

Coimbatore’s ‘Eat Right Millet Bikeathon’, a joint venture by the TN Food Safety Department and Sri Shakthi College, aims to promote millets’ nutritional benefits. Launched by the District Collector, it involved student participation in an awareness rally.

Coimbatore: In Coimbatore, an innovative ‘Eat Right Millet Bikeathon’ was launched today at the District Collector’s office, as part of the ongoing efforts to promote the Year of Millets. This event is a collaborative initiative by the Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department and Sri Shakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology.

The bikeathon, inaugurated by District Collector Kranthikumar, is designed to highlight the nutritional benefits of millets. Starting from the District Collector’s office, the rally traversed through Pollachi via Ukkadam, culminating at the Sri Shakthi College. This event saw the participation of over 15 two-wheelers, with students from the college actively joining in to spread awareness about the health advantages of consuming millets.

This awareness campaign is part of a series of events organized throughout the year by various government and private entities to highlight the importance of millets in daily diet. The ‘Eat Right Millet Bikeathon’ serves as a unique approach to educate the public, especially the younger generation, about incorporating millets into their meals for a healthier lifestyle.

The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to promoting traditional grains and a balanced diet. It also reflects an innovative way of engaging the community, particularly students, in understanding and disseminating information about healthier food choices.
