Drug Trafficking: 1,708 Tablets, 3.5 Kg Ganja Seized; 7 Arrested in Coimbatore

Peelamedu police arrested seven people who were allegedly involved in selling drugs near Coimbatore International Airport. Police seized 1,708 narcotic tablets, 3.5 kg of ganja and ₹21,000 in cash, and found that the tablets were allegedly brought from Maharashtra for sale in Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: Police have arrested a seven-member gang allegedly involved in drug trafficking near Coimbatore International Airport and seized 1,708 narcotic tablets, 3.5 kg of ganja and ₹21,000 in cash.



Police said they received information that a group was allegedly selling drugs near the rear side of the airport. Acting on the information, Peelamedu police reached the spot and surrounded a group of seven people.

During the inquiry, the accused were identified as Sanjay, Madhan Balaji and Jegath Hari from Chinniyampalayam; Abubacker Siddique and Nagarajan from Vellalore; Surya from Chettipalayam; and Soundararajan from Peelamedu.

According to police, the group was allegedly involved in the sale of narcotic tablets in Coimbatore. Following their arrest, police seized 1,708 tablets, 3.5 kg of ganja and ₹21,000 from their possession.

Police said the accused had allegedly travelled to Maharashtra, purchased the tablets at a lower price and transported them to Coimbatore for sale. According to the police, the tablets were purchased for around ₹30 each and allegedly sold for approximately ₹300 each in Coimbatore.

The seized tablets are estimated to be worth more than ₹5 lakh, police said.

Further investigation is underway to determine the source of the drugs and identify others who may be involved in the alleged trafficking network.
