Dacoit arrested in Dharapuram

Police arrested a robber who snatched 13 sovereigns of gold jewellery, including thalikodi and a gold chain, from an elderly woman who was walking on the road near Dharapuram.


Tirupur: The police arrested a robber who snatched 13 sovereigns of gold jewellery, including “thaali” and a gold chain, from an elderly woman who was walking on the road near Dharapuram and recovered the jewellery and put him in jail.

According to dharapuram crime branch police, Nachimuthu is a farmer and his wife Thirumathal is a native of Doctor Nagar on Kottap pulipalayam road in Dharapuram.

She was walking on the road on the evening of May 27. Two youths on a motorcycle snatched 13 pounds of gold jewellery, including a thali flag and a gold chain, which she was wearing around her neck and flew away at lightning speed.

Dharapuram police were informed by police inspector Manikandan, sub-inspector Karuppusamy and police rushed to the spot and conducted an investigation.

Then the old woman lodged a complaint with the police by my husband Nachimuthu. Based on the complaint, on the orders of District Superintendent of Police Swaminathan, sub-inspector Karuppusamy and police special forces led by police inspector Arul under the supervision of Dharapuram sub-divisional police deputy super kalaiyarasan came to know about the robber.

During the initial investigation, they examined the CCTV camera installed in the area. On the basis of a tip-off, the police brought pandi selvam alias Pandiarajan alias Pandiarajan, son of Nagore, a resident of East Pandian Colony on Virudhunagar Bypass Road and interrogated him.

At that time, she confessed that he had snatched jewellery from an elderly woman who had walked in Dr Nagar area of Dharapuram. Based on this, the police registered a case and arrested Pandi Selvam alias Pandiarajan. They later seized 13 sovereigns of stolen gold ornaments and handed them over to the court and lodged them in Madurai Central Jail. Police said the accused was already involved in a theft incident in Coimbatore district.
