About 14 tonnes of vegetables exported to Sharjah from City airport for ‘Vishu’ festival

According to Airport officials vegetables weighing up to 3 tonnes have been transhipped to Sharjah every day.


Coimbatore: In the past week alone, 14 tonnes of vegetables including mangoes have been exported by air from Coimbatore to Sharjah for the “Vishu” New Year celebrations.

“A total of 15 tonnes of cargo was exported from Coimbatore to Sharjah in the last 7 days on the occasion of Malayalam New Year. Of these, 14 tonnes of goods are vegetables” the officials said

“Vegetables including banana, beans and onions are being exported. Mangoes weighing up to one tonne and flowers including roses and sunflowers were also exported by air” the officials said.

The City International Airport is well connected to various cities including Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai and other foreign countries including Sharjah and Singapore on a daily basis.

While 25 flights are being operated daily, airport officials have said that flight operations will likely increase in the coming days as the summer vacation for schools and colleges has begun.
