Health regulation for all beauty centres: Systematizing Spas, Salons and massage centres in Coimbatore

This initiative serves as an important measure to regulate hygiene and protect the public from communicable diseases such as HIV, as well as to prevent human trafficking and any form of abusive activities against women and employees. Its implementation is essential to secure the wellbeing of all citizens, and we must strive to ensure its success.

Coimbatore: In order to regulate hygiene, prevent communicable diseases like the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and narrow down any actions of human trafficking or abusive behaviours against women/employees, corporate health officials plan to regularise and formulate a systematic function of all beauty centers, including spas, saloons, and massage centres.

According to higher officials in the corporation's health department, numerous beauty salons and parlours in the city operate without a controlled validity. As a result, in order to create money and improve the survival of coiffeur and beauticians on a low income, the department intends to adjust the annual tariff rates for space assignment as 500 sq. ft., 1000 sq. ft., with and without AC as Rs.200 to 15,000 per annum. As a result, many low-income people will benefit, while higher-end beauty salons' prices would rise.

This is a first-of-its-kind initiative in the state, and it is a step forward from the measures implemented in accordance with the Tamil Nadu State Public Health Regulations.

In order to supervise the actions of such beauty facilities, a list of criteria has been created. This includes requiring uniforms, certified course holders (including physiotherapy), degree holders, and rules that are comparable. Other requirements include a sanitary environment, spa doors that must be unlatched, adequate documentation of customer information, and the use of CCTV.
