Affected Alandurai farmer urges Forest department to check crop-raiding elephants, that destroyed his farm

Even though the Government had distributed the compensation, he urged the Forest department to take quick measures to check the movement of wild elephants into fields and residential areas.


Coimbator: Saminathan, a farmer of Sappanimalai, near Alandurai, had invested about 6 lakhs for the cultivation of Banana crops in his lands.



The crop raiding of wild elephants had been a menace as it destroyed his farm.

“The movement of jumbos is witnessed daily across the area and is continuously they indulge in crop raiding frequently’ the farmer complained.



Saminathan earlier had requested compensation for the land destruction from the district administration and was distributed an amount of Rs.83,000.

The aggrieved farmer said, "It is an arduous effort of 10 months, that I along with my wife had taken up in cultivating of this crop. This is our livelihood. We had lent about 6 lakhs from various sources to invest”.

Though the Government had distributed the compensation, he urged the Forest department to take quick measures to check the movement of wild elephants into fields and residential areas.

“He added that he spends about Rs.400 for the crackers every day to drive away the wild elephants from entering the fields. With a burden of loss in the fields, he stated that this is yet another expenditure putting them into severe debt’ bewailed the affected farmer.
