Thousands of devotees flock Adiyogi Ratha Yatra in Puducherry to receive darshan

The Ratham is adorned with the 7-feet tall Adiyogi, the first Yogi. The yatra kick-started from Coimbatore last month and will cover all four directions in Tamil Nadu. Out of the five Adiyogi Rathams travelling in different parts of Puducherry, one of them reached Puducherry on February 3 drawing a huge crowd.


Thousands of devotees flocked to the Adiyogi Ratha Yatra in Puducherry to receive darshan. The Adiyogi Ratha Yatra will travel across 30 districts in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and cover a distance of 25,000 km.

Even as the Adiyogi Ratham reached Puducherry, thousands of people were seen flocking in to receive the grace of Adiyogi, the first Yogi. On the occasion of Mahashivratri, Thenkailaya Bhakti Parvaya conducts the yatra annually before the Mahashivratri festival, allowing people unable to visit Adiyogi in Isha Yoga Center, Coimbatore to witness and receive the grace of Adiyogi in their villages.

The next morning, the Adiyogi Ratham left Laspettai and traveled to places like Sankara Vidyalaya School, Farmers Market, Mundyalpettai, Puducherry Town, Mudaliar Pettai, Indira Gandhi Square, Korimedu, Thattanchavadi, Kathirkamam.



A day before reaching Puducherry, the Ratham travelled to Mettupalayam, Rediyarpalayam, Murungambakkam, Irumbakkam, and Bagur. All the while, devotees thronged in huge numbers, offering 'aarati' to Adiyogi. The chariot left for Villianur on the fourth day and will travel to various places in Villupuram from Febraury 7 till February 10.

The public have been invited to attend the Isha Mahashivratri festival on February 18 at the foothills of Velliangiri, Coimbatore and Puducherry.

The 112-feet Adiyogi situated at the foothills of the Velliangiri Hill in Coimbatore is an expression of gratitude to Adiyogi Shiva, the first Yogi, who reportedly transmitted the science of Yoga to his seven disciples, the Saptarishis. Recognized as the world's largest bust sculpture by the Guinness World Records, the face of Adiyogi is 112-feet high, representing the 112 ways for one to attain well-being and one's Ultimate Nature. Consequently, thousands of people from all over the world visit Adiyogi every day to seek blessings.
