National Voters' Day Awareness Rally held in Ooty

To kick-start the rally, more than 500 people, including school children and women's self-help groups, marched from Ooty Central Bus Stand to the Tribal Cultural Centre on Botanical Garden Road.


The Nilgiris: An awareness rally was held in Ooty to mark National Voters' Day which is celebrated every year on January 25. Accordingly, the Nilgiris district administration also celebrated the 13th National Voters' Day in Ooty.



More than 500 people, including school children and women's self-help groups, marched from Ooty Central Bus Stand to the Tribal Cultural Centre on Botanical Garden Road as part of the rally.



Later, at the National Voters' Day function held at the Centre, the Nilgiris District Collector, S P Amrith and the Superintendent of Police, Dr. Prabhakar presented shawls to the Toda, Irula and Baniyar tribal couples who are above the age of 90, and who are the oldest voters in the district.



Later, certificates and prizes were awarded to the winners of various competitions held on the occasion of Voters' Day.
