The farmers are jubilant that the yield of Yard long bean (Thattai payaru used for poriyal) has been bountiful in Udumalpet this season.
Tirupur: In Udumalpet and surrounding areas of Tirupur district, Yard long bean which are used for fries are cultivated extensively.
The farmers are happy that the crop has given a good yield, as it was cultivated on several acres and it fetched a good market price too.
This all season crop gives good yield in Udumalai region and a harvest of 100 to 150 kg per acre is done per day.
“The cost of cultivation ranges from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 per acre. The yield ranges from 6 to 10 tonnes per acre” said the farmers.
“The crop fetches up to Rs. 15 to Rs 30 per kg and the price is almost stable, so large number of farmers have taken up to cultivating Yard long bean” said the farmers.
