On December 14, a conference of coconut farmers will be held at Senjerimalai in Coimbatore to press for various demands of farmers, including an increase in the procurement price of Copra at Rs.150.
Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Farmers' Protection Union has announced that a conference for coconut farmers will be held at Senjerimalai in Coimbatore on December 4th.
Addressing the press meet, Murugasamy, founder of The Tamil Nadu Farmers Protection Association, said that the Centre should should increase the procurement price of Copra from Rs,105 to Rs.150.
"Copra procurement should be increased from 285 kg to 500 kg per acre. Like in Kerala, the Tamil Nadu government has to procure the coconut directly from the farmers at Rs.40,000 per tonne" he noted.
Resolutions to the effect that the coconut farmers should be accorded to tap toddy from coconut and palm trees are to be passed during the conference.
Alarge number of farmers and farmers' union organisations will be attending the conference.
