2 tonnes of ration rice to be smuggled to Kerala seized near Coimbatore

Police have seized two tonnes of ration rice from near Thambagoundampalayam in Coimbatoe and arrested one person.


Coimbatore: There have been a spate of incidents of smuggling of ration rice to states including Kerala and Karnataka from time to time. The civil supplies intelligence unit police are seizing the smuggled rice.

In this case, the Civil Supplies Intelligence Unit police conducted a raid at Thambakaudanpalayam on the Coimbatore Othakkalmandapam-Velanthavalam road.

It was then revealed that the ration rice was hidden in a bag in a private land. Following this, the police seized 2 tonnes of ration rice and arrested kasimayan, a native of Madukkarai, who was trying to smuggle it.

The police have sent the seized ration rice to the godown and are interrogating the arrested Kasimayan.
