Coimbatore: 72-year-old prisoner lodged in Coimbatore Central Jail in POCSO case dies due to ill-health

The 72-year-old man who was lodged in Coimbatore Jail for allegedly sexually harassing a 12-year-old girl died due to ill-health.


Coimbatore: Rangasamy (72), a resident of Kamaraj Nagar near Kaunthapadi in Erode district was accused of sexually harassing a 12-year-old girl.

The police arrested Rangasamy under the POCSO Act. Following this, the Erode Mahila Court sentenced her to four years in jail. Rangasamy was later lodged in the Coimbatore Central Jail. His health deteriorated on November 16 and he was later admitted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for treatment. While he was undergoing intensive treatment there, he succumbed to ill-health.

The Race Course Road police are investigating the incident.
